Baby Record Reviews #2: Mogwai – ‘My Father My King’

I have a sneaking suspicion that my Daddy chose to play this record to me in the hope that it’s title would inspire me to see him in a more regal light… Well, I am not sure about that, but I can certainly say I liked this record and think it is very suitable as a sound track to my experience of life as as a 6 day old…

Here is a rundown of what I do over an average day:

  • Sleep
  • Cry
  • Feed
  • Wee
  • Cry
  • Sleep
  • Look around a bit
  • Feed
  • Poo
  • Cry
  • Scream
  • Feed
  • Sleep

As the eagle eyed amongst you will notice, this almost perfectly matches the structure of this record (which is actually just one song). Coupled with the fact that it doesn’t have any singing and so I don’t have to try to understand lyrics (when clearly at my age I have no grasp of syntax or meaning!) I think this is the perfect song for a baby like me.
8.5/10
*Daddy tells me that this song is actually taken from the Mogwai box set Central Belters, but I don’t think that should affect the review.
